2013 Ironman Whistler

The third week in August was Ironman Canada.  After 30 years in Penticton the race moved to Whistler, B.C.  Whistler turned out to be an awesome venue location, the Village Stroll is always in party mode, there is tons of things for everyone to do while there, and its not too big to get lost or find your way.

Jeannie and I are here in Whistler to support April and Dave on their Ironman Canada race (also racing are our other Port Alberni buds Russ, Rod, Gary and Colin – they are all on their bikes as I write this!). Jeannie found there was a 10k trail race the day before Ironman: the 5 Peaks Whistler-Blackcomb trail run. We’re here anyway… so of course we entered!

Short runs are not my thing, definitely not what I am good at. I can go for hours and hours, but I am just not fast. But now that my various injuries and illnesses seem to be at bay, I am motivated to get faster – so I figured this race would Read the rest of this entry »

Tenderfoot Boogie 50 km Ultramarathon: Squamish to Whistler

June 29, 2013, saw Jackie and me running the Tenderfoot Boogie 50k Ultra from Squamish, or its suburb Garabaldi actually, to Whistler up the Cheakamus Valley.  (In conjunction with our 50k, there were also 50 mile and 28k races along the same route). Jackie had been struggling with a foot issue and hadn’t run much but felt she could cruise a 50 km mountain run so, since we were registered and had accommodation, we went for it.  We were watching the weather as the previous week was very wet and rainy.
