Whoa! We did it! Dave and I got married – last weekend, August 9th, at his parents’ summer house on Sproat Lake (a 15 minute drive out of Port Alberni).
I know you can’t count on a wedding going to plan… but miraculously, everything went exactly as we wanted it to! It was a small group, just our close family and a very few old friends. The weather cooperated spectacularly… warm and sunny, but not too hot. The ceremony was short and sweet, out on the dock. I wasn’t going to have a bridesmaid, but Xhosa stepped in unexpectedly at the last moment (after giving me a good hard crotch-poke as Mom walked me down the “aisle”) to take on that duty.
Then we all hung out on the deck for a salmon BBQ, with all sorts of home-made salads. No wedding cake – but an absolutely delicious berry cobbler made of local Port Alberni blueberries and blackberries for dessert. And then swimming and sunning down at the lake. Not many weddings funner than that!
Everyone heading down to the dock for the ceremony.
Dave’s waiting for me with the rings.
Mom walked me down the aisle… Xhosa decided to help.
Saying our vows (and hoping the dock wasn’t going to sink).
Husband and wife!
Oops, oh yeah, gotta go back and sign to make it official.
With Joey and Xhosa as my witnesses…
… and Dave’s friend Dan to witness for him.
OK, now we are officially husband and wife!
Dave and his dad.
Dave and me with our parents.
And a portrait with the whole family.
But now it’s time to eat!
Dave’s sister Anne did a great job setting the tables and doing all the flowers.
Yum, really good food. We’ve had a request to post the salad recipes here, so we’ll do that when we’ve got a bit more time.
I think the berry cobblers were a big hit. We both like that WAY more than wedding cake.
Yummy lunch with champagne…
…and just a few short speeches.
Because we then had to get down to the lake for the beach party!
Now how fun is that!
What better way to take the plunge… a really fun start to the years of adventure we plan to share together.
And a big thanks to Mick, Anne and Jo for these pix, and to all of our family members who worked so hard to make this such a great day. xxoo
