Our honeymoon ultramarathon run in the mountains: The Squamish 50!

The Squamish 50 is a very well organized race, attracting ultramarathon runners from far abroad. It fills up fast: Jackie has written a race report for Running Ultramarathons. Here is my take:

There are three race distances, 23 km, 50 km, and 50 miles. While we ran the 50 km, a surprising amount of runners ran both the 50 miles on Saturday and the 50 km on Sunday!

A big hilly training hike to prep for the Squamish 50k ultramarathon – with an internet stranger!

LP1040214I only knew Nikki, aka @ndscottnygren, through my @running_ultras Twitter account. She’s a Vancouver-based trail runner and ultramarathoner, and she was coming out to Port Alberni for a few days. She tweeted and asked if we could go for a run together.

Dave and Jackie get married!!!

LWP_000446Whoa! We did it! Dave and I got married – last weekend, August 9th, at his parents’ summer house on Sproat Lake (a 15 minute drive out of Port Alberni).

I know you can’t count on a wedding going to plan… but miraculously, everything went exactly as we wanted it to! It was a small group, just our close family and a very few old friends. The weather cooperated spectacularly… warm and sunny, but not too hot. The ceremony was short and sweet, out on the dock. I wasn’t going to have a bridesmaid, but Xhosa stepped in unexpectedly at the last moment (after giving me a good hard crotch-poke as Mom walked me down the “aisle”) to take on that duty.
