Spring is here, oh yes it is! A break from running to hike up to the Alberni Inlet Trail lookout

Port Alberni, hiking, running, Alberni Inlet Trail, lookoutI’m taking a few days off running because my knee has been acting up. Nothing major – it has a history – but just want to nip it in the bud, before it flares up. I’ve been doing some long hikes instead (which has been great for Xhosa, our dog who just had surgery on her leg two weeks ago). So it was perfect timing when my good friend from my old Tofino days, Joanna, emailed me on Monday to say she’d be passing through town on Tuesday: did I want to go on a hike?

Not to mention… the forecast was for sunshine and warmth. And it materialized, spring is well and truly here! We did the ol’ standby, which I never get tired of – the northernmost part of the Alberni Inlet Trail, from the Ship Creek Road trailhead up to the lookout, a good climb, making a round trip of about 2 hours. I don’t think I need more in the way of words for this one: enjoy the pix!

And now up at the top – Joanna takes pix of the dogs and the view.

Great suggestion, Jo – what a nice way to spend some time together!

It sure is, Jason! Port Alberni has some world-class trails (truly… I have hiked and run in so many places around the world to compare!) and people are only just beginning to find out about them. Dave and I are on these trails several times a week… and we fully know how lucky we are!

Hopefully not too many people find out – sometimes the best trails are the “secret” ones! 🙂

No, we’re good with people finding out. Especially this one, the Alberni Inlet Trail. There’s been a big community effort over many years to get this trail system together, and I think it’s great for people from all over, here in town and around the world, to come and see it. It is NEVER crowded. (And besides, Dave and I have lots of other “secret” trails around that we get out on too!)
Here’s some more info about it – between the photos is a link you can click on for the maps: http://www.acrd.bc.ca/cms.asp?wpID=275
